Guaranty Receives a Clean Bill of Health

JUNCTION CITY - Employees at Guaranty Chevrolet and RV operations received good news last week after being identified by General Motors as a key-dealer for GM as the automobile manufacturer restructures itself in the face of filing for government-assisted Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on June1.
 
According to GM's Web site, it will launch as an independent company dubbed "New GM to be built from only the strongest parts of GM's business."  New GM expects to launch approximately 60 to 90 days after June 1.
 
What this means for Guaranty is that the second-generation dealership, which is Lane County's longest-standing Chevy dealer, will be a part of GM's future business.
 
This is a great vote of confidence to for the Junction City dealership, which was chosen based on favorable scores of sales effectiveness, customer satisfaction, capitalization and profitability, said Guaranty Dealer Shannon Nill.
 
For a while, national news was talking about the number of GM dealers forced to close, but Guaranty was not getting any news from GM, Nill said.
 
Althouh Nill was please with his dealership and employees, he admitted he was a little nervous until he got the good report card from GM.  Guaranty's bank was putting every domestic dealership on notice at the beginning of%20the year, but Nill is proud to state that Guaranty is their number one performing automotive client.
 
In spite of a difficult economy, Guaranty has thrived, having been profitable for six straight months.  In May, Guaranty sold 123 vehicles and has surpassed that number this month in only 19 days.
 
"This is a tougher economy than last summer, and we're doing better this year," Nill said.
 
Guaranty has been able to maintain success by trimming cost and overhead to become more efficient.
 
With the positive feedback from GM, Nill and the 300 emloyees of Guaranty can focus on continuing customers in the near and long term future.
 
"We're just really happy with the quality of the GM service," Nill said.  "We're very ambitious, and we're very pleased with the way we're heading."

Advanced technologies, including engines with direct injection and Active Fuel Management, enable a satisfying balance of exhilarating performance and good fuel economy.



Camaro product highlights also include:
* Sleek styling with heritage cues and 10 available exterior colors
* Four-wheel independent suspension system, including a 4.5-link rear suspension
* Four-wheel disc brake systems standard on all models, including four-piston Brembo calipers on SS models
* StabiliTrak stability control system and traction control standard on all models

* Six standard air bags, including head curtain side-impact air bags and front seat-mounted thorax side air bags

Under the hood, Camaro LS and LT use a 3.6L engine with variable valve timing to optimize performance and fuel economy. It is SAE-certified at 304 horsepower (227 kW) and 273 lb.-ft. of torque (370 Nm). A six-speed manual transmission is standard with the 3.6L engine; a Hydra-Matic 6L50 electronically controlled six-speed automatic, with TAPshift control, is available. Achieving 29 mpg in highway driving, the LS and LT models feature great fuel economy to complement their fun driving experience.

The high-performance Camaro SS is equipped with a powerful 6.2L V-8, with a choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Manual transmission-equipped models receive the LS3 engine, SAE-certified at 426 horsepower (318 kW) and 420 lb.-ft. of torque (569 Nm). It is paired with a TR6060 six-speed transmission.

A new, L99 V-8 engine is used on automatic transmission-equipped SS models. It is based on the LS3, but also includes GM's fuel-saving Active Fuel Management feature. It is SAE-certified at 400 horsepower (298 kW) and 410 lb.-ft. of torque (556 Nm). It is matched with a Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed transmission that helps delivers an estimated 25 mpg on the highway.

While the bailout is far from certain, Nill is optimistic Congress will come through.

"I think the heads will get together and make this happen in the next two weeks," said Shannon.

Chevrolet Cobalt XFE and Pontiac G5 XFE Lead The Pack

More than any other automaker, GM offers seventeen 2008 models that achieve an EPA fuel economy of 30 miles per gallon or higher. These vehicles are not limited to one class either! GM has everything from well-equipped subcompacts and midsize sedans to compact SUV's, all holding steady at 30 mpg or higher hwy. Guaranty Chevrolet Pontiac has access to and offers twelve of these excellent vehicles. Leads General Motors Into Its Second Century

DETROIT - General Motors launched its next 100 years today by unveiling the much-anticipated production version of the Chevrolet Volt - a vehicle that delivers up to 40 miles of gasoline- and emissions-free electric driving, with the extended-range capability of hundreds of additional miles.

"Revealing the production version of the Chevy Volt is a great way to open our second century," said Rick Wagoner, GM Chairman and CEO. "The Volt is symbolic of GM's strong commitment to the future ... just the kind of technology innovation that our industry needs to respond to today's and tomorrow's energy and environmental challenges."

Form follows function
 
The design of the Chevrolet Volt production car has evolved from the original concept that was unveiled at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Because aerodynamics plays a key role in maximizing driving range, GM designers created an aerodynamically efficient design for the production vehicle. Many of the design cues from the concept vehicle endure in the production Volt, including the closed front grille, athletic stance, rear design graphics, outside rearview mirrors and more. The Volt's rounded and flush front fascia, tapered corners and grille are functional, enabling air to move easily around the car. In the rear, sharp edges and a carefully designed spoiler allow the air to flow off and away quickly. An aggressive rake on the windshield and back glass help reduce turbulence and drag.

Working closely with GM aerodynamicists to shape the Volt, design and engineering teams developed one of the most aerodynamic vehicles in GM's history. They spent hundreds of hours with the Volt in GM's wind tunnel, testing and re-testing parts such as the front and rear quarter panels, rear spoiler, rockers and side mirrors. Aerodynamic improvements enabled GM to reach the Volt's target of driving up to 40 miles (based on EPA city cycle) without using gasoline or producing emissions.

Inside, the Volt offers the space, comfort, convenience and safety features that customers expect in a four-passenger sedan, and it delivers them in a variety of interior color, lighting and trim options unlike any offered before on a Chevrolet sedan. Modern controls and attractive materials, two informational displays, and a touch-sensitive infotainment center with integrated shifter distinguish the Volt's interior from other vehicles in the market.

Some of Volt's interior technological features include:

* Driver-configurable, liquid crystal instrument display
* Standard seven-inch touch screen vehicle information display
* Touch screen-style climate and infotainment controls
* Optional navigation system with onboard hard drive for maps and music storage
* Standard Bluetooth for cellular phone and USB/Bluetooth for music streaming

A new era in automotive transportation

The Chevrolet Volt is leading a new era of electrification of the automobile by creating%20a new class of vehicle known as the Extended-Range Electric Vehicle, or E-REV.

The Volt uses electricity to move the wheels at all times and speeds. For trips up to 40 miles, the Volt is powered only by electricity stored in its 16-kWh, lithium-ion battery. When the battery's energy is depleted, a gasoline/E85-powered engine generator seamlessly provides electricity to power the Volt's electric drive unit while simultaneously sustaining the charge of the battery. This mode of operation extends the range of the Volt for several hundred additional miles, until the vehicle's battery can be charged. Unlike a conventional battery-electric vehicle, the Volt eliminates "range anxiety," giving the confidence and peace of mind that the driver will not be stranded by a depleted battery.

The Chevrolet Volt can be plugged either into a standard household 120v outlet or use 240v for charging. The vehicle's intelligent charging technology enables the Volt's battery to be charged in less than three hours on a 240v outlet or about eight hours on a 120v outlet. Charge times are reduced if the battery has not been fully depleted. At a cost of about 80 cents per day (10 cents per kWh) for a full charge that will deliver up to 40 miles of electric driving, GM estimates that the Volt will be less expensive to recharge than purchasing a cup of your favorite coffee. Charging the Volt about once daily will consume less electric energy annually than the average home's refrigerator and freezer units.

Get a charge out of driving

The Chevrolet Volt offers spirited driving performance in a remarkably quiet interior. More than 220 lithium-ion cells contained within the Volt's battery pack provide ample power. The Volt's electric drive unit delivers the equivalent of 150 horsepower, 273 lb-ft. (370 Nm) of instant torque, and a top speed of 100 miles per hour. The lack of engine noise, combined with special sound-deadening materials, make the Chevrolet Volt an extremely quiet vehicle to drive.

GM estimates that the Volt will cost about two cents per mile to drive while under battery power compared to 12 cents per mile using gasoline priced at $3.60 per gallon. For an average driver who drives 40 miles per day (or 15,000 miles per year), this amounts to a cost savings of $1,500 annually. Using peak electric rates, GM estimates that an electrically driven mile in a Chevy Volt will be about one-sixth of the cost of a conventional gasoline-powered vehicle. The cost savings are even greater when charging during off-peak hours, when electric rates are cheaper.

The Chevrolet Volt is expected to be built at GM's Detroit-Hamtramck manufacturing facility, subject to GM successfully negotiating satisfactory government incentives. The all new Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid

2008 Green Car of The Year

Over the last several years there has been a lot of media attention given to the new Hybrid SUV's entering the market with each vying for center stage. True, most of these vehicles do offer the consumer a good alternative to standard gas powered vehicles, but many of them fall short of significant change in terms of fuel economy, towing capacity and style from their gas/diesel predecessors.
 
One vehicle that is doing it's best to avoid this mold, and was recently named '2008 Green Car of the Year(R)' by the Green Car Journal, is the all new Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid with the two-mode hybrid system. When you pair the two-mode technology with GM's Active Fuel Management system, the Tahoe Hybrid offers up to 50% better city fuel economy over the non-hybrid Tahoe. The benefit of this is reflected in city traffic where a majority of SUV's spend their time. You are receiving the benefits of a larger more versitile vehicle in power, storage and passenger capacity, but reap the fuel benefits of a mid-size car!
 
So exactly how much space is in this vehicle, and how much can it actually tow? According to GM the Hybrid Tahoe boasts seating for up to 8 passengers (including driver), 60 cubic feet of cargo space (with the second and third row seat in folded positions) and up to 1400 pounds of onboard cargo. The Hybrid Tahoe is no lightweight in towing either with the ability to tow up to 6,200 pounds! According to GM, the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid "... is available in two- or four-wheel drive" and that its "... hybrid propulsion system is designed to operate in three ways: electric power, engine power, or any combination of electric and engine power."  This means that when you are towing, or need to excelerate onto the highway, the Tahoe's Vortec V8 seamlessly kicks into gear. If this isn't needed and conservation is in effect (such as in the city) then two small 60 kw motors take care of your power needs. Like we mentioned before, pairing the two-mode with the Active Fuel Management system is going to increase your overall fuel economy. 
 
So what are these two modes and how do they work? Well according to GM's Chevrolet Hybrid website (http://www.chevrolet.com/hybrid/articles/index.jsp?id=3):
 
 
Two-Mode System: Mode 1

In the first mode, at low speed and light load, the vehicle can operate in three ways:

1. electric power
2. engine power
3. or any combination of electric and engine power.

When operating with electric power, it provides all the fuel efficiency of a full hybrid system. Leaving the engine shut off for extended periods of time and moving under electric power is key to reducing fuel consumption in heavy stop-and-go traffic. But when you need the extra muscle of Tahoe's Vortec V8, it is there to seamlessly kick in and deliver the power you expect.
 
Two-Mode System: Mode 2

The second mode is used primarily at highway speeds to optimize fuel economy. It provides electric assist in addition to four-cylinder or full eight-cylinder power when conditions demand it, such as trailer towing and climbing steep grades.

To put it another way, you'll experience the benefit of improved fuel consumption while still having access to plenty of horsepower, torque and utility when you need it.
 
GM made additional enhancements to the body of the Tahoe Hybrid in order to obtain the maximum fuel efficiency. For example, the Tahoe Hybrid is lowered in both the front and rear to reduce wind resistance along with Aerodynamically enhanced assist steps (integrated into the design). Not only has the hood been streamlined but it along with the "liftgate are made with lightweight aluminum to reduce weight."
